N00-N08: Glomerular diseases
Glomerular diseases belong to a group of conditions that affect the kidney filters known as glomeruli. These are tiny blood vessels responsible for cleaning your blood by removing excess fluid and waste, which your body later disposes of as urine. If your glomeruli are damaged, your kidneys can't effectively filter your blood and waste, fluids, and electrolytes may accumulate and you could develop serious health problems. Glomerular diseases may occur suddenly or develop gradually over time. Common symptoms can include swelling in your hands, feet, or face, and changes in the color and frequency of your urine. Causes can vary, and include genetic factors, infections, and certain diseases like diabetes or lupus. These diseases can affect anyone, regardless of age or health status, and can sometimes lead to kidney failure if left untreated.
