N00-N08: Glomerular diseases

N00: Acute nephritic syndrome

Acute Nephritic Syndrome refers to a collective group of kidney disorders, which come on rapidly and are characterized by inflammation of the kidneys' tiny filtering units, known as glomeruli. This inflammation is often a reaction to infections or autoimmune conditions and can impede the kidneys' ability to correctly filter waste and excess fluids from the blood. Symptoms may include blood in urine (making the urine appear dark or rusty), swelling in the face, eyes, or lower extremities, and high blood pressure. Uncharacteristic fatigue, frequent urination, especially at night, and kidney pain that presents on one or both sides, could also surface. Disease progression varies; whilst some individuals may have a full recovery, others could experience worsening symptoms that lead to chronic kidney disease. The cardiovascular and urinary systems are the ones most impacted. Although anyone can get Acute Nephritic Syndrome, it's more commonly observed in children and young adults.
