M05-M14: Inflammatory polyarthropathies
M08: Juvenile arthritis
Juvenile arthritis is a group of chronic medical conditions that occur in children before the age of 16. These conditions are characterized by the inflammation of one or more joints, leading to symptoms such as stiffness, swelling, redness, and warmth in the affected area, often accompanied by fever and fatigue. While the exact cause of juvenile arthritis remains unknown, it's thought to be an autoimmune disorder which means that the body's immune system attacks its own cells and tissues. It's not a contagious condition so it cannot be passed from one person to another. Over time, this condition may progress and affect not only the joints, but also the eyes, skin and gastrointestinal tract, potentially causing serious complications. It's important to note that the severity and course of disease can vary greatly from child to child.
