T65: Toxic effect of other and unspecified substances

The group of conditions known as Toxic effect of other and unspecified substances encompasses a wide range of illnesses that occur when a person ingests, inhales, or comes into skin contact with harmful or toxic substances. These substances could be chemicals, poisonous plants, contaminated food or water, or industrial materials. The manner of transmission can be either accidental or intentional, as in the case of substance abuse or poisoning incidents. Common symptoms often include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, skin rashes, breathing difficulties, changes in consciousness, and in severe cases, organ failure. The progression of these conditions depends on the type of substance involved, the amount and route of exposure, and the individual’s health status. Numerous body systems can be affected, ranging from the digestive, respiratory, and nervous systems to the skin and eyes.
