O85-O92: Complications predominantly related to the puerperium

O86: Other puerperal infections

The group of conditions referred to as "Other Puerperal Infections" typically occur during the puerperium, which is the period following childbirth. These infections can develop due to a multitude of factors such as complications during delivery, poor hygiene or pre-existing conditions, but they are most commonly caused by bacteria that enter the body during or after childbirth. Symptoms can vary greatly among patients, but common signs include fever, pain in the lower abdomen, abnormal vaginal discharge or bleeding, and malaise. These infections can progress quickly, leading to serious complications like sepsis or abscess formation if not treated promptly. They predominantly affect reproductive system, but can spread to other areas such as the urinary system or bloodstream. This group includes a variety of infections like endometritis, wound infection, and urinary tract infections post childbirth among others.
