M86-M90: Other osteopathies

M90: Osteopathies in diseases classified elsewhere

Osteopathies in diseases classified elsewhere, as the name suggests, are bone diseases that occur as a consequence of another primary disease or condition. Bones are living tissues that continuously remodel throughout life, with cells called osteoclasts breaking down old bone and osteoblasts building new bone. A host of conditions can disrupt this balance, causing bones to weaken and making them more susceptible to fractures - this is what osteopathies are. In these cases, the primary disease, be it endocrine, nutritional, metabolic or an infectious disease, triggers an imbalance between the destruction and regeneration of bone tissue. Symptoms can vary depending on the specific type and severity of the osteopathy, but may include bone pain, deformity, fractures, and an increased risk of injury. Because these conditions affect the skeletal system, they can cause reduced mobility and impact overall quality of life.
