H80-H83: Diseases of inner ear
H81: Disorders of vestibular function
Disorders of the vestibular function relate to problems with the body's balance system, located in the inner ear. Typically, an issue with this system can affect an individual's sense of balance and spatial orientation, causing a variety of symptoms. Commonly observed signs include dizziness, vertigo (a sensation of your surroundings spinning), difficulties with balance, and problems focusing the eyes. These disorders may occur due to infections in the inner ear, head injuries, certain medications or age-related degeneration. Over time, these disorders could progress to impact daily activities; for instance, it might become challenging for an affected individual to walk without staggering, or reading could provoke nausea. It's important to note that these conditions typically influence only the balance system and do not typically have a direct impact on hearing.
