Z12.2: Special screening examination for neoplasm of respiratory organs

When we breathe, the air gets into the body via the respiratory tract. The respiratory tract can be divided into the upper and the lower respiratory tracts. The nose and throat form part of the upper respiratory tract. The lower respiratory tract begins at the larynx. This includes the trachea and the bronchia.

The examination was to see whether you have a tumor disease. The tissue in the body is made up of cells. A tumor disorder involves the cells multiplying more than normal. This results in abnormal or excess tissue forming. A tumor can be benign or malignant. Pieces of tissue may be examined, for example. Sometimes images of your body’s insides will also be taken. It is also possible that your airways will have been looked at from inside.
