U82-U85: Resistance to antimicrobial and antineoplastic drugs
The group of conditions known as resistance to antimicrobial and antineoplastic drugs involves certain strains of bacteria, fungi, viruses, and cancer cells that do not respond or have reduced sensitivity to the medications used to treat them. These conditions can occur when germs or cancer cells, after being exposed to medicines, adapt and grow to resist these drugs over time. The resistance can happen due to misuse or overuse of medications. Common signs vary widely depending on the specific infection or cancer and can range from fever, fatigue, pain, inflammation, among other symptoms. The disease progression is typically more difficult to manage due to the ineffective standard treatments, which can lead to persistent infections or cancer conditions. These diseases can affect various organ systems depending largely on the nature of the underlying disease.
