T47: Poisoning by agents primarily affecting the gastrointestinal system

T47.7: Poisoning: Emetics

A substance can cause poisoning if, for example, too much of it is taken. The substance may also be administered or taken by mistake.

Emetics are used to produce vomiting. The different emetics vary in the way they work. With a poisoning by emetics, the symptoms depend on such things as which emetic has been taken.

Poisoning can cause excessive vomiting, for example. You may be particularly restless. You may also be light-headed and lose consciousness. Your blood pressure may also be lower than usual. Breathing problems may occur.
