T05: Traumatic amputations involving multiple body regions

T05.1: Traumatic amputation of one hand and other arm [any level, except hand]

Traumatic amputation of one hand and other arm refers to the sudden loss of these limbs due to a severe injury or accident. The trauma could involve either a complete or partial amputation. Complete amputation means the entire limb is lost, while in partial amputation, some connective tissue still joins the limb to the body. This condition may be caused by various incidents such as a car crash, an industrial accident, or an attack. Symptoms at the time of injury include severe pain, profuse bleeding, and possible shock. In the aftermath of the traumatic event, phantom limb sensation, where the person feels the presence of the amputated limb, may also occur. The traumatic amputation impacts the musculoskeletal, circulatory, and nervous systems. It also profoundly affects a person's lifestyle, necessitating adjustment to their physical abilities and overall daily life.
