S90-S99: Injuries to the ankle and foot
S92: Fracture of foot, except ankle
Fractures of the foot, excluding the ankle, represent a variety of different breaks that can occur in the bones of the foot. These fractures can happen in any of the bones of the foot, excluding the ankle, including the toes (phalanges), the long bones (metatarsals), and the bones in the back of the foot (tarsals). The causes of these types of fractures are typically physical traumas, such as falls, accidents, or sports injuries, but can also stem from overuse or conditions that weaken the bones, such as osteoporosis. Symptoms often include severe pain, swelling, bruising, tenderness, difficulty walking or bearing weight on the foot, and in some cases, visible deformity of the foot. Fractures usually progress to healing with proper treatment, but can cause ongoing pain or disability if not managed correctly. Fractures can affect the musculoskeletal system, potentially disrupting normal function and mobility.
