With a spasm, muscles in the body contract involuntarily. It can be painful when the muscles contract. Muscle cramps of this type can occur during a seizure. With a seizure, the person loses control of parts of their body for a short time. They may suffer brief twitches or severe spasms, for example. The person may also suddenly feel drowsy or pass out.
