R43: Disturbances of smell and taste
R43.2: Parageusia
There are 5 basic tastes, for example sweet and sour. The basic tastes are perceived by the taste buds on our tongue. It may be that a person tastes less in general, or nothing at all. But it may also be that it is only a specific basic taste that we cannot taste.
There are different reasons why our sense of taste might change, reduce or be entirely absent. Our senses of smell and taste are closely connected. So one reason for our sense of taste changing or reducing may be a disorder in our sense of smell. Other causes of problems with tasting may be some pathogens or certain medications.
