R43: Disturbances of smell and taste
R43.1: Parosmia
We perceive smells using our olfactory nerves in our upper nose. There are different reasons why we may perceive smells differently. Damaged olfactory nerves, for example, can cause us to perceive smells differently. Our sense of smell can also be altered by some pathogens or after an injury.
Our senses of smell and taste are closely connected. So we may notice a change to our sense of smell and taste at the same time.
