P70: Transitory disorders of carbohydrate metabolism specific to fetus and newborn
P70.0: Syndrome of infant of mother with gestational diabetes
If the mother develops diabetes while pregnant, it can affect the child's development. The child may be bigger and heavier than most other children. After the birth it may have breathing problems.
Immediately after the birth, the sugar levels in the child's blood might keep falling too low. If the sugar content of the blood is too low, the child may breathe faster than usual or stop breathing. When there are breathing problems the skin can turn blueish. The body temperature may be lower than usual. The child may also suffer seizures or fall unconscious.
