P03: Fetus and newborn affected by other complications of labour and delivery
P03.2: Fetus and newborn affected by forceps delivery
If there are difficulties during the birth and the child's head is lying deep in the pelvis, a forceps may be used. A forceps can be used to help pull the child out of the vagina. Forceps are used to grab hold of the child’s head on either side.
Using a forceps can damage the child's health. Damage to health may be, for example, an abrasion on the skin or bruising to the head.
