O80.0: Spontaneous vertex delivery

Spontaneous vertex delivery is a term used in obstetrics to describe the typical childbirth process. In this process, the baby is positioned head-first (vertex position) in the mother's womb and comes out naturally without the need for any medical interventions such as forceps use or cesarean section (C-section). The delivery usually begins with the onset of regular contractions of the uterus followed by breaking of the amniotic sac ('water breaking'). This leads to progressive dilation (opening) of the cervix. The baby then descends through the birth canal and is birthed head-first, which is the safest delivery position for the baby. This process is generally completed within several hours but can vary widely among different women. Any complications or unexpected situations during spontaneous vertex delivery, such as long labor or fetal distress, would require immediate medical attention.
