O30.1: Triplet pregnancy
Triplet pregnancy is a medical condition where a woman is carrying three babies in her womb at the same time. This often occurs as a result of fertility treatments or can sometimes happen naturally. It's typically identified early in the pregnancy during routine ultrasound examinations. The mother might also experience more severe pregnancy symptoms such as nausea, fatigue, and larger than normal weight gain. A triplet pregnancy is considered high risk mainly due to the increased likelihood of premature birth. This means the babies are born before 37 weeks of pregnancy and might have health issues due to their early arrival. The mother is also at higher risk for problems such as gestational diabetes and high blood pressure. Regular monitoring of the mother and fetuses is generally required throughout the pregnancy.
