O10-O16: Oedema, proteinuria and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium

O14: Pre-eclampsia

Pre-eclampsia is a group of conditions that occur in pregnant women, typically after the 20th week of pregnancy or during childbirth. These conditions are characterized by high blood pressure and signs of damage to other organ systems, most frequently the liver and kidneys. Women with pre-eclampsia may have swelling in the hands, legs, and feet, sudden weight gain, and problems with vision. Pre-eclampsia can be a serious, potentially life-threatening complication for both mother and baby if not managed. The cause is not completely understood, but factors like genetics, diet, and autoimmune conditions may play a role. The condition can progress to eclampsia, a more severe form that can cause seizures in pregnant women.
