O00-O08: Pregnancy with abortive outcome

Pregnancy with abortive outcome refers to a group of conditions in which pregnancy ends prematurely, before the fetus can survive outside the womb. This can occur for a variety of reasons, including chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus, hormonal imbalances in the mother, infections, and other health problems. Some common symptoms can include cramps, bleeding, and loss of pregnancy symptoms. The experience can vary widely from woman to woman. Some may have a complete abortion, where all of the pregnancy tissue is expelled from the body, while others may experience an incomplete abortion, where some tissue remains. This is a distressing and often physical experience for many women that generally occurs during the first trimester. After such an event, a woman's body typically needs time to recover and her hormonal systems to return to their pre-pregnancy state.
