N60: Benign mammary dysplasia

N60.3: Fibrosclerosis of breast

The breast is made up of fatty tissue, connective tissue and the mammary gland. Milk is produced in the mammary gland during and after pregnancy so that the child can be fed.

There has been a growth in the mammary gland tissue and connective tissue in your breast. Cavities (cysts) have formed in your breast as a result of the extra tissue. These cysts are surrounded by a thin layer of skin and contain fluid. This benign condition may occur, for example, when the sex hormones in your body are too high or too low. You may be able to feel lumps in your breast. Your breast may also be painful, or your nipple may leak fluid. You may also have no symptoms at all.
