N13: Obstructive and reflux uropathy
N13.2: Hydronephrosis with renal and ureteral calculous obstruction
Hydronephrosis with renal and ureteral calculous obstruction is a medical condition characterized by a swelling of one or both kidneys. This happens when the normal flow of urine out of the kidneys and into the bladder is obstructed. More specifically, this type of hydronephrosis is caused by the presence of kidney stones (referred to as 'calculous obstruction') in the kidneys or in the ureters, which are the tubes that transport urine from the kidneys to the bladder. Common symptoms of this condition may include pain in the back or sides, frequent urination, pain during urination, and blood in the urine. If severe or left untreated, this condition can lead to kidney damage or failure over time. The disease progression varies from person to person, depending on the size and location of the kidney stone(s) causing the blockage.
