N10-N16: Renal tubulo-interstitial diseases
N11: Chronic tubulo-interstitial nephritis
Chronic tubulo-interstitial nephritis is a group of conditions that involve long-term inflammation and scarring of the tubules and the interstitial tissue within your kidneys - these are the parts of the kidneys responsible for filtering waste and extra fluids from your blood. Often due to prolonged usage of certain medications such as painkillers, it may also result from other systemic disorders like autoimmune diseases, infections, or adverse allergic reactions. Common symptoms include tiredness, changes in urination – either increased frequency or volume –, swelling in parts of the body, and high blood pressure. Over time, these conditions may lead to kidney function decline which can result in chronic kidney disease (CKD). As the severity increases, it may lead to kidney failure, a life-threatening condition that necessitates dialysis or a kidney transplant.
