M47: Spondylosis
Spondylosis refers to a group of conditions involving degenerative changes in the spine, specifically the degeneration of the intervertebral discs located between the vertebrae. While these changes are usually a part of natural aging processes, certain factors such as lifestyle, hereditary influences, and previous injuries can enhance their development. Affected individuals often experience uncomfortable symptoms, including pain, stiffness in the back or neck, and in some severe cases, numbness or weakness in the limbs due to nerve compression. Spondylosis can impact various parts of the spine - the neck (cervical spondylosis), lower back (lumbar spondylosis), and less commonly the middle back (thoracic spondylosis). As the condition progresses, the diminished mobility and continuous wear and tear may contribute to the formation of bony outgrowths known as bone spurs, further complicating the condition.
