M41.5: Other secondary scoliosis
Other secondary scoliosis refers to an abnormal curvature of the spine that is not primary in nature but is a result of another underlying medical condition or factors. This form of scoliosis develops because of another pre-existing health problem, such as a neuromuscular disorders or injuries, that indirectly affects the spine's normal growth and alignment. Unlike the typical "S" or "C" shape observed in primary scoliosis, the spine in other secondary scoliosis might have a more complex shape due to the influence of the primary condition. Symptoms may vary widely from person to person, but common signs include noticeable changes in the posture and alignment of the body, such as uneven shoulders or waist. Other secondary scoliosis can progress over time, depending on the severity of the underlying condition, and affect other systems of the body like the respiratory and cardiovascular systems due to the distortion of the rib cage.
