M40: Kyphosis and lordosis

M40.4: Other lordosis

Other lordosis (ICD-10 M40.4) is a spinal condition characterized by an excessive inward arch of the lower back, also known as swayback. This abnormal curvature of the spine may develop as a reaction to spinal diseases, disc injuries, obesity, pregnancy, or certain postures. Although it can be seen at any age, it is more common in women and older adults. Symptoms of lordosis may include a visibly arched lower back, a large gap between the lower back and a flat surface when lying down, and discomfort or pain in the lower back, especially after physical activity. The severity and progression of this condition can vary based on the cause and individual health factors. If left untreated, lordosis may lead to chronic pain, discomfort, and difficulties in movement.
