M35: Other systemic involvement of connective tissue
M35.2: Behçet disease
Behçet’s disease involves certain blood vessels becoming inflamed. Blood vessels transport the blood from the heart to the different tissues and organs in the body, and back again. In so doing, they provide the tissue and organs with oxygen and nutrients, and remove waste substances.
Blood vessels in different organs can be affected by the inflammation. When the blood vessels in the mucous membrane of the mouth are affected, ulcers may form in the oral mucosa. Ulcers may also appear on the genital organs and the skin may change. The joints and the digestive tract can also be affected.
The precise cause of the disease is not known.
