L12: Pemphigoid

L12.3: Acquired epidermolysis bullosa

Your immune system is attacking certain parts of your skin. This may be caused by contact with pathogens, for example. As a result, your skin has become inflamed and damaged.

The skin is then usually red, and broken in some places. Typically, blisters also form on the skin. Areas that are subject to a lot of use are most often affected. This is why the skin on the hands and feet, as well as on the elbows and knees, is often damaged. When the skin damage heals, crusts often form in those places.

The skin may have been damaged for a long time before blisters form.
