K05: Gingivitis and periodontal diseases
K05.1: Chronic gingivitis
The gums can become inflamed for instance if you do not clean your teeth properly. In that case, the inflammation develops due to the bacteria found in plaque. The gums can also become inflamed as a result of other diseases.
If the gums are inflamed, they can be reddened and bleed more rapidly. If the gums are inflamed for an extended period, the inflammation sometimes spreads to other regions.
