H01: Other inflammation of eyelid

H01.0: Blepharitis

The eyelids along with the lashes are located above and under the eye. They protect the eye from injuries and drying out. Fat, muscles, and several glands are included in the eyelid, among other things. The glands produce some partly fatty elements for the layer of fluid on the eye.

An inflammation of the edge of the eyelid can be caused by bacteria, for example, or by foreign bodies such as contact lenses. An inflamed eyelid is usually swollen and red. When the eyelid is inflamed, the eye may be sore or itch. Sometimes the eyelashes stick together. Or it can feel as though there is something in one’s eye.
