G60-G64: Polyneuropathies and other disorders of the peripheral nervous system
G61: Inflammatory polyneuropathy
Inflammatory polyneuropathy is a group of conditions where the peripheral nerves, which carry signals between your brain and spinal cord and the rest of your body, become inflamed. This inflammation usually happens when your body's own immune system attacks your nerves as if they were foreign substances, often as an overreaction to an infection, autoimmune disease, or other trigger. Symptoms can range from mild to severe and may include muscle weakness, numbness, tingling, loss of balance, and loss of reflexes. It can affect both sides of your body. In severe cases, it can interfere with movement and basic body functions. The disease generally starts to show symptoms rapidly and can progress over a period of days to a few weeks. Symptoms often start in the legs and move towards the upper parts of the body. The progression can vary from person to person. Some people may recover fully while others may experience long-term nerve damage. Despite the setbacks, many people can lead a normal life with proper medical attention.
