G52.0: Disorders of olfactory nerve
The olfactory nerve runs on both sides of the brain to the mucous membrane in the upper part of the nose.
Damage to the olfactory nerve means you are not able to smell as well as you used to, if at all. You may also perceive smells incorrectly. Damage to both olfactory nerves means your perception of taste can also be impaired.
