G50-G59: Nerve, nerve root and plexus disorders
G52: Disorders of other cranial nerves
"Disorders of other cranial nerves" encompasses various conditions that affect cranial nerves excluding the optic and olfactory nerves. This group of conditions can result from several causes such as injuries, infections, tumors, stroke, or degenerative diseases. The cranial nerves control several functions in your body, including your sense of taste, facial sensations, eye and neck movements, and hearing. As such, the symptoms of these diseases are varied, and dependent on which particular cranial nerves are affected. For example, a disorder in the facial nerve can lead to facial paralysis, or Bell's palsy. If the vestibulocochlear nerve is affected, hearing loss or balance problems can occur. These conditions typically progress over time, but the speed and severity of disease progression can differ greatly among individuals. These disorders primarily impact the nervous system and, possibly, the related sensory and motor systems in the body.
