G20-G26: Extrapyramidal and movement disorders

G24: Dystonia

Dystonia refers to a group of movement disorders characterized by involuntary muscle contractions, resulting in abnormal movements or postures. The contractions could be sustained or intermittent, and may vary in frequency and distribution. These disorders can impact one or multiple parts of the body, and they may occur at any age. Often, the exact cause of dystonia isn't known, but it's thought to be related to altered function in regions of the brain that control movement. Individuals with dystonia may experience symptoms such as twisting or repetitive movements, tremor, or a dragging foot. The condition is progressive, meaning symptoms may start mild and slowly worsen over time. Dystonia can significantly affect the nervous and musculoskeletal systems, often causing pain and disrupting normal functionality.
