B20-B24: Human immunodeficiency virus [HIV] disease

B23: Human immunodeficiency virus [HIV] disease resulting in other conditions

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) disease resulting in other conditions refers to a group of health issues that occur due to a weakened immune system caused by HIV infection. HIV, a virus that spreads through certain body fluids, most commonly sexual behaviors and shared needles, attacks the body's immune system, specifically the CD4 cells (T cells). Over time, HIV can destroy so many of these cells that the body can't fight off infections and disease anymore. This can result in various conditions including infections, cancers, neurological disorders, and metabolic diseases. Symptoms may vary depending upon the specific condition, but generally, people may experience fatigue, recurrent infections, weight loss, night sweats, chronic diarrhea, and other disease-specific symptoms. These conditions often occur in the advanced stages of HIV infection usually when it progresses to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).
