B18.1: Chronic viral hepatitis B without delta-agent

B18.10: Chronic viral hepatitis B without delta-agent : immune-tolerant phase

Chronic viral hepatitis B without delta-agent in the immune-tolerant phase is a long-term infection of the liver. It is caused by the Hepatitis B virus (HBV), but does not include the presence of a delta-agent, another type of virus that can sometimes co-infect the liver. During the immune-tolerant phase, there is a high amount of the virus present in the body, but the disease does not cause visible damage to the liver or prompt significant immune response. Symptoms are typically absent during this phase, and it's identified through blood tests, which show high levels of HBV but normal liver function tests. Over time, if not controlled, the disease can progress to more active stages of hepatitis, causing liver damage and potentially leading to serious conditions like cirrhosis or liver cancer.
