A02.2: Localized salmonella infections

Salmonella are pathogenic bacteria. There are many different types of salmonella. Salmonella are transmitted via poultry, pigs or cattle in particular. For example, eating eggs or meat that have not been adequately heated can result in a salmonella infection.

A salmonella infection often results in inflammation of the intestines. This usually results in diarrhea and abdominal pain. In addition, you may also get headaches or have to vomit. The illness may also cause a fever. A lot of fluid can be lost due to the illness.

Certain tissue or organs in your body have been inflamed by the salmonella.
