A02: Other salmonella infections

Other salmonella infections, grouped under the ICD-10 code range A02, are a set of health issues caused by different strains of salmonella bacteria. Such conditions are usually transmitted to humans through the consumption of contaminated water or food, particularly undercooked or raw poultry, eggs, and meat. Though the symptoms may differ slightly, these salmonella infections generally cause stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, and occasionally, vomiting. Stomach discomfort may start as early as 12 hours after exposure, and usually lasts 4-7 days. In most cases, the body can recover without treatment. However, in some severe cases, the infection can spread from the intestines to the blood stream, which then can affect other body systems and could potentially become life-threatening if left untreated.
