Y40.5: Aminoglycosides
Aminoglycoside-related complications refer to health issues that develop in response to the administration of a specific type of antibiotics known as aminoglycosides. These antibiotics, while effective against certain types of bacterial infections, can sometimes cause negative side effects or reactions in the body. Commonly, the areas most impacted by these complications include the kidneys and ears. Nephrotoxicity, or kidney damage, and ototoxicity, a type of hearing impairment, can occur. Symptoms of nephrotoxicity may include decreased urine output, swelling in the legs, or high blood pressure, while ototoxicity might present with tinnitus (ringing in the ears), dizziness, or hearing loss. The complications tend to evolve gradually and may become more noticeable over time. In general, they may arise due to high doses, prolonged usage, or pre-existing susceptibility in the individual.
