X20-X29: Contact with venomous animals and plants
X28: Contact with other specified venomous plants
Contact with other specified venomous plants refers to a group of conditions resulting from direct skin exposure to certain harmful plants. These plants contain toxins that may cause mild to severe contact dermatitis—an inflammatory skin condition characterized by rash, itching, redness, and swelling. Some individuals may also experience blisters filled with fluid as well as a burning sensation. The severity of the symptoms often depends on the type of plant, the extent of exposure, and an individual's sensitivity level. Skin reactions to venomous plants can occur in any season and involve any part of the body that has come into contact with the plant. While these conditions progress gradually over several hours or days following the exposure, they generally resolve on their own once exposure to the plant has ceased, though repeated exposure can lead to an escalating severity of symptoms.
