W65-W74: Accidental drowning and submersion
W67: Drowning and submersion while in swimming-pool
Drowning and submersion while in a swimming pool refer to a range of water-related injuries that can happen when someone is submerged or immersed in water and cannot breathe. These accidents are often due to inability to swim, exhaustion, incapacitation, or getting trapped underwater, particularly in swimming pools. The person may experience coughing, spluttering, chest pain, and shortness of breath initially. As the condition progresses, there may be loss of consciousness, seizures, or heart attacks due to lack of oxygen. When the body doesn't receive enough oxygen, it can cause damage to critical organs, primarily the brain and lung which are severely affected. Gradually, without prompt rescue and resuscitation, it can lead to irreversible harm and may be fatal.
