T61.1: Toxic effect: Scombroid fish poisoning
The fish had a high level of a substance that is also discharged in the body if allergies are present. The level of this substance in fish can increase if, for example, the cold chain is interrupted or the fish was not prepared correctly. Fish such as tuna and mackerel can be affected. If the fish is consumed, allergy-type symptoms can occur. Typical is a swelling of the lips and an itchy rash. There can be nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. You can get a fever or feel your heart pounding.
