T57.2: Toxic effect: Manganese and its compounds

Manganese is a metal. When manganese combines with other substances, toxic compounds can also be formed. If you inhale such a compound, you may have difficulty breathing or have cramps, for example. If you swallow a manganese compound, your gullet, stomach, or intestines may become damaged. Movement or speaking may also become difficult.
