Phosphorus occurs in various forms. White phosphorus, for example, is toxic. If you are poisoned with white phosphorus, you usually feel sick and may vomit. You can also get diarrhea and your liver may be damaged. If you are in contact with white phosphorous over a long period of time, your teeth and jawbone may be damaged. Many phosphorus compounds are also toxic.
