T48: Poisoning by agents primarily acting on smooth and skeletal muscles and the respiratory system
T48.0: Poisoning: Oxytocic drugs
Oxytocics make the muscles of the womb contract. This can induce or continue labor late in the pregnancy. Oxytocics are used to induce birth, for example. Oxytocics include the drug oxytocin, for example.
Drugs can cause poisoning if too much is administered. The drug may also be administered or taken by mistake.
Poisoning by an oxytocic can cause headaches or nausea, for example. Your heart may beat too quickly or too slowly. Your blood pressure can rise or fall. The birth contractions may also be too strong or follow one another too quickly.
