T41: Poisoning by anaesthetics and therapeutic gases

T41.0: Poisoning: Inhaled anaesthetics

Anesthetic gases are medications used to cause numbing for operations, for example. Anesthetic gases are administered and inhaled via a mask or a tube. Anesthetic gases can put you to sleep. Some anesthetic gases also prevent you from feeling pain.

An anesthetic gas can cause poisoning if, for example, too much of it is inhaled. The anesthetic gas may also have been inhaled or administered by mistake.

Poisoning by an anesthetic gas can affect the blood circulation and breathing, for example. The patient may not inhale enough or their blood pressure might be very low. The anesthetic gas may also damage the liver function.
