T37: Poisoning by other systemic anti-infectives and antiparasitics
T37.0: Poisoning: Sulfonamides
The sulphonamides include drugs that act against pathogens like bacteria. The sulphonamides group includes, for example, sulfamethoxazol and sulfadiazine. Sometimes, though, other drugs are also counted as sulphonamides. These may be certain drugs for diabetes, for example.
A drug can cause poisoning if, for example, too much of it is taken. The drug may also be administered or taken by mistake.
Poisoning by a drug from the sulphonamides group can cause nausea or vomiting, for example. Headaches can occur. Seizures may also occur. The drug may also impair the kidney function.
