T21: Burn and corrosion of trunk

T21.6: Corrosion of second degree of trunk

Corrosion of second degree of trunk refers to a specific type of burn injury affecting the chest, back, or abdomen. This condition is typically caused by a chemical substance that damages the skin, creating a severe reaction that extends beyond the first layer, or epidermis. Symptoms of a second degree corrosion often include redness, pain, swelling, and the formation of blisters. Unlike first degree burns which affect only the surface of the skin, second degree burns also damage underlying tissues, which can result in white, wet, or shiny appearance of the affected area. As this is a serious condition, it could potentially lead to complications such as infection or scarring, and it may disrupt the function of sweat glands, hair follicles, and other structures within the skin.
