T21: Burn and corrosion of trunk

T21.3: Burn of third degree of trunk

A burn of third degree of the trunk refers to a severe type of skin injury that occurs on the central part of the body. The causative agents could be heat, chemicals, electricity, or radiation. Third-degree burns are the most serious as they involve all layers of the skin and can cause permanent tissue damage. Symptoms often include a dry and leathery texture to the skin, color can vary widely from white or even black, lack of sensation due to nerve damage, and swelling. Without immediate medical intervention, the damage can progress to surrounding tissue. Major body systems that can be affected include the integumentary, circulatory, and immune systems. Healing from third-degree burns often demands advanced medical care and can lead to significant scarring and functional impairments.
